For over 52 years the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library have helped the city of New Orleans build, maintain and service their libraries. Founded in 1957 to raise funds and public awareness for the building of the main library, the Friends have consistently supported all of the city’s library branches. Resources are generated through
book sales,
memberships and
donations.
The Friends subsidize National Library Week, literacy teachers, homework help, storytelling, crafts, Black History Month, the Tom Dent Literary Festival, Teen Read Week, the summer reading program, books and equipment. There are many ways to participate and join the Friends in their mission to aid the libraries of New Orleans.
